Hughie appointed Commissioner of Oaths
Nenagh Independent county councillor Hughie McGrath has been appointed a Commissioner of Oaths for Tipperary by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Frank Clarke.
Councillor McGrath, who was appointed a Peace Commissioner in 2015, learned of his new appointment last month.
A Commissioner for Oaths is a person who is authorised to verify affidavits, statutory declarations and other legal documents.
In applying for the position, the popular Nenagh councillor was nominated by six legal professionals from separate solicitor firms and by six members of the business community. He was informed of his appointment on May 17.
Cllr McGrath said he intends to continue acting as a Peace Commissioner while taking up his new role as Commissioner of Oaths.
Speaking to The Guardian on his appointment, he said: “Being a Commissioner of Oaths allows me to sign a wider variation of legal forms for people than I would in my role as Peace Commissioner.
“It was an honour for me to be appointed a Peace Commissioner by the former Minister for Justice Frances Fitzgerald six years ago and it’s an extra honour now to be ratified as a Commissioner of Oaths by the Chief Justice.”
Cllr McGrath thanked the 12 individuals who nominated him for the position. Anyone who wishes to contact him to sign any legal document can do so on his mobile phone: 087-255 9323.
