Nenagh get off to solid start

There were mixed fortunes overall for Nenagh AFC in the opening two rounds of the Limerick District League premier division last week.

On the road for both games, Nenagh AFC won their opening game of the season against Coonagh United 4-1 last Thursday.

Coonagh were the surprise packet in last season’s short-lived season. Eoin Coffey, Bryan McGee, Kieran O’Brien and Dylan Kennedy were on the mark for the visitors. Coonagh replied with a penalty scored by Martin Deady.

On Sunday, after taking an early lead, Nenagh AFC were beaten 2-1 away to Fairview Rangers. Fairview had numerous chances but were having no luck in front of goal. They paid the price for these misses when Nathan Kelly put Nenagh in front from a good breakaway goal. Ross Mann restored parity to send the sides in level at the break.

The game continued in the same vein after the restart with Fairview on the front foot. They got a great chance to take the lead when awarded a penalty midway through the half. However, keeper Harry Fleming saved well to deny AJ O’Connor.

Straight to the far end where Nenagh were awarded a penalty minutes later, but again goalkeepers came out on top when Aaron Savage saved well to deny his former teammates.
