Walking tour of historic Nenagh graveyard

Ormond Historical Society will hold a walk around Kenyon St graveyard on Monday next, 23 August. The event will start at 7pm and all are welcome.

Kenyon St has many burials dating back to the 18th century and is the burial place of many Nenagh families. Many of the graves are associated with the town's long established military tradition - with more than twenty burials having military connections. Sixteen regiments of the British army are mentioned on tombstones and there are also burials of casualties from our Civil War.

Also, among the many graves associated with the business life of the town is the tomb of the Kempston family - founders of the Nenagh Guardian.

The walk will be guided by OHS member John Flannery, so come along on Monday and learn about some fascinating events in the history of Nenagh.
