County Finals weekend in Ladies Football

It is finally here the pinnacle of the Tipperary Ladies Football Season with our Championship Finals weekend where eight finals will be played over the weekend all the way from Senior A to Junior D.

Camida Senior ‘A’ Final: Brian Borus v Aherlow in Lattin on Sunday 7th November at 2.30pm.

An exciting and enthralling prospect between these rivals it will be a replay of the Division 1 League Final which Brian Borus emerged as winners 3-13 to 1-6. An ill-tempered affair, Aherlow were reduced to thirteen players on that occasion.

In the championship, Brian Borus were forced all the way to extra time by an understrength Cahir side in their semi-final. After building up a sizeable lead in the opening half Cahir slowly pulled their way back to level the scores at full time. However, Borus experience won the day for them in that extra time and has them back in their first championship final since 2019 when they also faced Aherlow.

Aherlow were also lucky to shake off Moyle Rovers whom they defeated by just the bare minimum in their semi -final. Aherlow have had a season where they have had to contend with injuries to many of their key players. They do seem to be back to full fitness and after last year’s final defeat to Cahir and already suffering a loss in the League Final to Brian Borus they will not be go down easy.

However, Brian Borus extra time battle with Cahir should be of benefit to them and puts them in the favourites seat.

Camida Senior ‘B’ Final: Clonmel Commercials v Templemore at the University of Limerick on Friday 5th November at 8.00pm

Looking at both sides, Clonmel Commercials had a very convincing win over Thurles Sarsfields to reach this. They had mixed fortunes in the group stages opening with a four-goal win over Fethard and losing by four goals to Cahir in the next round and really put it up to Aherlow only losing by two points in their final game of the group.

Templemore got their season off to a slow start with a heavy defeat to Moyle Rovers, however, they recovered in their second round and gave Brian Borus a good run for the money only losing by three points. In the semi-finals, Fethard, who had beaten Templemore in last year’s Senior B Final, put up a tough battle but Templemore ran out easy winners.

This will be a keenly contested game. Templemore lost last year’s final and as they say a little bit of hurt can drive them all the way and they might just have that edge to get them across the line.

Camida Intermediate Championship Final: Ardfinnan v Galtee Rovers in Lattin on Sunday 7th November at 12.30pm

Ardfinnan had a very convincing eight-point win over Cappawhite in their semi-final. The hardworking Laura Dillon was in top form recording a personal tally of 2-8 and will no doubt make life very difficult for the Galtee’s defence.

Galtee Rovers finished bottom of the league table failing to register a win in the round robin stages. However, credit to them the Galtee girls were deserving winners over Boherlahan/Dualla in their semi-final. Boherlahan had opportunities in that game however the Galtee Rovers defence were in mean form and were determined to make the finals again this year.

Ardfinnan are just up from the Junior ‘A’ ranks, however, their line-up features a number of well-known county players including Laura Dillon, Laura Nagle as well as county minor stars the Clara & Sarah English, and of course the recently retired Samantha Lambert. A formidable outfit Ardfinnan would have to go into this game bearing the favourites tag.
