Garda warning over fake 'An Post' scam link

An Garda Síochána have issued advice to the public as fraudsters target valid sellers of items on DoneDeal and perhaps other similar sites.

The scam uses a fake An Post link that declares that the goods have been paid for and then brings you into a screen where you provide your bank card details, no doubt to phish money from your account instead of remitting it to you. When you examine the fake An Post page you will notice that none of the other functions are clickable unlike the genuine An Post site.

Garda advice to the public is:

- Never click on a link of an unsolicited text, email or respond to cold callers seeking personal information.

- Do not use reply or call the number supplied by these texts.

- Never give away personal data like PIN number, card numbers, passwords, one time codes, PPS numbers

- If you have responded to such a text or paid the scammers, contact your bank immediately for a recall.

- It is also important to report the matter to your local Garda Station.
