Busy schedule for Nenagh Institute Snooker & Social club
Two national competitions have been held recently at Nenagh Institute Snooker & Social Club in recent weeks.
The Irish Club Singles Championships were held on 20th November and the Munster qualifier for the Irish Senior Snooker Championships was held last weekend.
Receiving players from all around the country for the club singles championships, it was Irish international Stephen Bateman from Kilkenny who came away as champion, defeating John Torpey of St. John’s Limerick 4-2 in a highly contested final. Nenagh Institute’s Chris Hayden did best by reaching the quarter-finals, defeating Aman Goel from Navan 4-1 to reach the last 8.
At the Munster qualifiers for the Irish Amateur Championships last weekend, Nenagh’s own Brendan O’Donoghue along with Mark Tuite, Frank Sarsfield and Greg Casey came through to play in the last 16 at the S.B.I head quarters in Carlow on next weekend, 18th and 19th of December. Brendan is top seed for the event, and we wish him the best of luck at finals weekend from all his friends and club members.
Snooker and Billiards Ireland (national body for Irish snooker) chairman Dylan Rees and Irish national and international coach PJ Nolan visited the club during the Irish Munster qualifiers and were very impressed by the standard of our newly refurbished club.
A good discussion was had about the future of the game in Ireland and in particular about the youth and our academy in Nenagh of which PJ will be coming in January to give a coaching session. A great opportunity for learning the game.
The club is still open for further membership and of course for coaching. Coaching sessions with Tony and Brendan every Thursday at 5.30pm. All free.
