Council’s new e-Planning system
Tipperary County Council was chosen to pilot the development and implementation of the new e-Planning system, which aims to modernise the processing and administration of planning applications.
The council’s Planning, Information Technology and Finance sections have collaborated with the Local Government Management Agency (LGMA) and the Department of Housing Local Government and Heritage and third-party providers to facilitate the construction of this new electronic system.
The council’s Planning section intends to commence the initial phase of the implementation on December 15. This initial phase will provide the facility to lodge a planning application online.
It is expected that the functionality to make online submissions by interested parties and prescribed bodies will be made operational in early 2022.
A significant amount of work has been carried out to date by the planning authority under the supervision of Teresa Kiely to increase the awareness amongst the private sector agents (engineers, architects and technicians).
The council appreciates the participation and feedback to date in assisting it in the development of a new system that will present many benefits for everyone involved in the planning application process including:
- information will be more readily available
- E-files will be available for viewing online quicker than paper files
- Environmental benefits from reduced use of paper and ink and associated cost savings
- notifications to applicants or third parties will be via automated email
It is expected that the availability of this new electronic system will enhance the effective operation of the planning authority as it provides the associated statutory planning functions.
It is expected that e-Planning will be rolled-out by other local authorities after this pilot is completed.
