Status Orange storm warning for Tipp

A status Orange storm warning has issued for Tipperary bringing severe and damaging winds for a time, valid from 3am Friday 18/02/2022 to 11am Friday 18/02/2022. Met Éireann weather warnings will be monitored in the event that this will be escalated to a Red weather warning.

Storm Eunice will be a fast-moving storm coming in from the South West coast and moving up across Munster. The storm will be more intense in the south of the county with wind gusts expected to reach close to 75km/hour along the Tipperary/Cork border with gusts in the North of the County expected to reach around 60km/hr. No flooding issues anticipated around the county.

The Council’s Crisis Management Team met this afternoon to assess the situation and to ensure that all necessary arrangements are put in place in advance of this severe weather event all emergency repair crews and contractors will be on standby and ready to deal with any emergencies.

The Council wishes to advise the public to prepare for power outages tomorrow morning. Think of elderly neighbours that may need support if there are any outages. The greatest threat is likely from fallen trees and flying debris. Householders urged to take precautions by securing all outdoor furniture and leisure items such as trampolines and goal posts.

Motorists should exercise extreme caution because of the danger posed by wakened trees, particularly between 8am and 9am when families will be making journeys to school.

We urge you to pay attention to weather bulletins and updates from the Council.

Arrangements have been made to issue an advisory through the local media today and to update the Tipperary County Council website. The position will continue to be monitored by the Council’s Severe Weather Assessment Team.

Road Closure updates will be posted to the Council’s website and social media sites – Facebook/Twitter/MapAlerter.
