Art exhibition at St Flannan’s Cathedral
The first Local Artists Exhibition at St Flannan’s Cathedral in Killaloe takes place from Thursday to Sunday, February 24 to 27. Dean Roderick Smyth will officially open the exhibition at 5pm this Thursday.
The venue for the event is the historic 13th century St Flannan’s Cathedral in Killaloe. Co-ordinated by local visual artist Trish Taylor Thompson, the Local Artists Exhibition will feature art works by both amateur and professional artists, including painters, photographers, ceramicists and sculptors.
‘Art at St Flannan’s’ is proud to present the first of many art events that will take place throughout the year.
The aim of this new initiative is to encourage art makers of all ages from the communities of the heritage towns to be creative and be part of a community event. Local artists are invited to submit one piece of work for the exhibition.
Most of the art works will be for sale with the full remuneration going to the artists. This is an opportunity for local artists to showcase their work to the public and to experience being part of a group exhibition alongside professional artists.
‘Art at St Flannan’s’ invites students from St Anne’s Community College, Killaloe to submit their work. Under the guidance of art teacher Emma Forde, Transition Year students and art students are encouraged to become involved in the various aspects of creating and curating an exhibition. This initiative offers invaluable experience to these promising young adults.
