Choice Based Letting of council houses

Tipperary Co Council has advertised the commencement this month of a Choice Based Letting (CBL) scheme for vacant houses.

As of March 21, the council will begin using (CBL) to allocate council houses, including leasing and approved housing body properties.

CBL is a new approach to the allocation of council houses that puts choice at the

centre of the allocation process. Easy to understand and easy to use, the system allows tenants to make expressions of interest in vacant properties owned by the council, and to bid for the houses they actually want. It has helped reduce instances of tenants refusing accommodation in other counties.

HOW CBL WORKS

Vacant properties will be advertised on a dedicated website on a weekly basis for viewing. All housing applicants will have access to this website to view the properties and will be able to express their interest (expression of interest) in a property that they would like to live in and that meets their needs.

The expression of interest will be logged on the system and all those approved applicants who registered their interest in a property will be considered for the property along with all other registered applicants. The allocation of properties will be made in accordance with the council’s Scheme of Letting Priorities, also known as the Allocation Scheme. If you do not register your interest in the property, you will not be considered for the property.

All approved applicants have already received a letter advising them of the introduction of this new system. A further letter will be sent to applicants shortly that will provide details of how the system works and will include their user ID and password; these will allow applicants to log on to the CBL website so they can make an expression of interest in an advertised property.

For people who do not have access to a PC or smart phone, facilities to access the CBL website are available at your local library, Civic Offices in Clonmel and Nenagh or Municipal District Office in Carrick on Suir, Tipperary and Thurles.
