Nenagh gig in aid of Ukraine

The Well Bar in Nenagh will this Saturday night host a fundraising gig in support of the humanitarian aid effort in Ukraine.

Local metal bands Unkindness of Ravens and Brigantia will perform shows that were to have taken place at The Well last year but were postponed due to the pandemic.

Unkindness of Ravens - which features members from Nenagh, Capparoe and Roscrea - travelled to Ukraine in 2016 to play at the extremely popular Electric Meadow festival. Bass guitar player Phil Brett of Nenagh said the band made some great friends in Ukraine, with whom they have maintained regular contact through social media.

“Thankfully they are still in contact during the ongoing conflict,” Phil said. “We have recently been informed that they are providing humanitarian aid to the Ukrainian military and refugees on the Polish border. Both Brigantia and Unkindness of Ravens have agreed that 100% of any money taken on the door at our gig in the Well on April 2 will be sent directly to help them in this time of madness.”

Phil spoke of the warm welcome the Ukrainian people accorded to Unkindness of Ravens during their 2016 visit. He said the current conflict resonates with everyone in Nenagh and he hoped to see a strong show of support and solidarity with the Ukrainian people this Saturday night.

“We are well aware that this type of music is not for everyone but this is what we do and have done for years, and this is the only way we are able to help them.”
