North Tipperary GAA Affairs

The draws for the North Hurling Championships took place last week at a North Board meeting in The Hibernian Inn.

Hurling Championship Draws: Six teams make up the Senior Championship. It’s a clash of neighbours in the quarter final line up with Toomevara taking on Borris-Ileigh and a repeat of the 2021 North Final with Kilruane MacDonaghs facing Kiladangan. Nenagh Eire Og and newly promoted Templederry Kenyons were drawn to receive byes to the semifinal stage.

Seven teams are competing in the Premier Intermediate Championship. Burgess have received a bye to the semi-finals with the quarter final line up as follows; Silvermines v Kiladangan, Newport v Roscrea and Portroe v Ballina.

Five teams make up the Intermediate Championship. The quarter final sees Borrisokane take on Ballinahinch with the winner facing Shannon Rovers in the semi-final. The other semi-final sees Moneygall face Lorrha.

The start date for these championships are dependent on Tipperary’s inter-county campaign.

Junior ‘A’ Hurling League: The first round of the North Junior ‘A’ Hurling league took place last Saturday with close victories for the two away sides.

In Borrisoleigh, Roscrea had a 1-16 to 1-13 win over Borris-Ileigh whilst Toomevara came away from Puckane with a 0-18 to 2-10 win over Kiladangan. The third game wasn’t played as Kilruane MacDonaghs conceded a walkover to Nenagh Eire Og.

The second round of games will take place on Friday 8th April with 6.45pm throw-ins where Roscrea host Kilruane MacDonaghs, Toomevara host Borris-Ileigh whilst Kiladangan make the short trip to MacDonagh Park to take on Nenagh Eire Og.

Junior ‘B’ Hurling League: The first round of the North Junior ‘B’ Hurling League will take place on the weekend of 9th/10th April.

Group 1 action will see Shallee host Ballinahinch against Newport at 4.30pm on Saturday 9th whilst the other game in the group between Burgess and Ballina take place at 12 noon on Sunday 10th in Kilcolman.

Templederry Kenyons will have a bye in round 1 of Group 2 with Portroe hosting Kiladangan at 4.30pm on Saturday 9th with Silvermines hosting Nenagh Eire Og in Dolla at 12 noon on Sunday 10th.

Group 3 will see Lorrha hosting Shannon Rovers at 4.30pm on Saturday 9th whilst Borrisokane host Moneygall on Sunday 10th at 12 noon.

Under 19 Football: In the North U19 ‘A’ Football, there are three teams participating with the draw taking place last week. Ballina take on Roscrea-Inane in the semi-final on Wednesday 6th April at 6.30pm in Ballina with the winner taking on Kiladangan in the final on Wednesday 13th April.

There are seven teams in the North U19 ‘B’ Football championship which commences on Wednesday 6th April at 6.30pm. Round 1 is straight knock out with the fixtures as follows: Kilruane MacDonaghs v Moneygall-Clonakenny in Cloughjordan; Silvermines v Newport in Dolla; Borrisokane v Nenagh Éire Óg in Borrisokane.

Portroe were drawn to the semi-final where they will meet the winners of the quarter finals. Open draw to determine semi-final pairings. First team drawn for semi-final pairings will have home advantage. Semi-finals scheduled for Wednesday 13th April and North Final scheduled for Wednesday 20th April.
