A last gasp Paddy McCormack goal saw fourteen man Tipperary snatch victory over Offaly in the All-Ireland Minor Hurling Final on Sunday.
Tipperary came from six points down on 52 minutes when they were reduced to fourteen men after Damien Corbett was sent off after he threw the hurley in the process of Cathal Robinson shooting which connected with the Offaly sub.
However, as they did in the Munster Final, Tipp found another gear despite the numerical disadvantage with Jack O’Callaghan, Sam O’Farrell, Paddy McCormack, Darragh McCarthy (free) and Aaron O’Halloran all-pointing but were still two adrift in the fourth and final minute of added time when they won a close range free which Paddy Phelan floated into the square and Paddy McCormack got the touch to send the ball to the net to send the Tipp support into raptures.
In the process they broke Offaly hearts as for the vast majority of the game they were the better side, leading 1-10 to 0-7 at half time with Leigh Kavanagh’s goal right on the break giving a true reflection on their dominance.
Their control of the game continued in the second half as Tipp got within three but when they went down to fourteen men, it was hard to see a way back for the Premier County but the managed it from somewhere to win the Irish Press Cup for a 21st time.
