Callouts for Killaloe Coast Guard
At 4.50pm on Tuesday, June 28, Killaloe Coast Guard unit was tasked to assist a vessel stuck against Killaloe Bridge. Within minutes, a boat crew launched from Pier Head, Killaloe, and a shore team also responded by road and on arrival, a crew member was transferred to the vessel and an assessment of the vessel was carried out.
All on board were safe and well and the vessel was not taking on water. A decision was made to remove the six adults and four children from the vessel and bring them to safety at Ballina Quay. The hire company that owns the vessel had a very fast response and took over the recovery of the vessel from the bridge. At 6.15pm, the vessel was recovered from the bridge without damage.
On Saturday evening the unit was again tasked at 8.20pm to assist a 19-foot powerboat with engine difficulty south of Parteen Weir. The five occupants on board were safe and well and wearing life jackets. A crew member was transferred to the causality vessel and a tow line was set up. The vessel was taken on tow back to Ballina where a shore team assisted in the safe mooring of the vessel. At 9.45pm the unit was stood down and returned to base.
Well done to everyone involved in both operations.
