Emma Langford brings her Birdsong Tour to Nenagh Arts Centre this Saturday.

Acclaimed performer Emma’s show at Nenagh Arts Centre

Emma Langford and friends bring the Birdsong Tour to Nenagh Arts Centre on Saturday, July 23.

Following the release of her acclaimed second album ‘Sowing Acorns’ in 2020, Emma makes her highly anticipated return to live stages.

Limerick's Emma Langford released her first album, ‘Quiet Giant’, in November 2017. The album saw her awarded Best Emerging Artist at the RTÉ Radio 1 Folk Awards and nominated for Folk Artist of the Year at the Irish Post Awards. The album release coincided with a tour of Germany and Switzerland, and a run of hugely successful sold out shows in Ireland and the UK. The success of her debut prompted the independent artist to begin work on her next project.

Emma's second album Sowing Acorns was released in September 2020, receiving a Grammy nod in the longlist for Album of the Year in 2021, and huge critical acclaim across Ireland, the UK and Germany.

In their review, Folk Radio UK said: “Emma Langford has delivered a mature, assured and eminently listenable album, frothing with melodic charm and lyrical intrigue” while the Irish Times described the album as “compelling, charming and totally assertive”.

Music lovers will be no stranger to Langford's epic acapella folk anthem Birdsong, her gentle lament The Winding Way Down to Kells Bay, and soulful ballad Mariana, all of which received regular airtime on national TV and radio throughout the pandemic. On July 23 at Nenagh Arts Centre, you can expect to hear all these songs that got you through those lonely housebound days and lots more besides from Emma and friends.

Storytelling sits at the heart of everything Emma Langford does, interweaving her live performances, and shining through her recorded works. Hers is an inimitable, dreamy voice in the new wave of Irish folk.

2022 will see her collaborate on a project surrounding the legendary Gráinne Mhaol, Pirate Queen, with award-winning Irish conductor and composer Eimear Noone; and continue her Arts Council supported research around Irish women in myth and history.

SUPPORT ACT

Emma’s support act and special guest is Jack Keeshan who has recently released a six-track EP, ‘Internal Dialogue’. A proud Roscrea native, Jack Keeshan is not just some other young fellow with a guitar strung round his shoulder; this becomes evident when you see him perform. He has the fingerprints of Bob Dylan and the echoes of Bob Marely flowing through his music. This is a young songwriter with a very different message.
