Awards day at Teach an Léinn

A celebration of learning and new skills

Awards days have always been celebrated in Teach an Léinn in Nenagh; however, this has not been possible for the last few years due to Covid-19. Despite the lockdowns, courses have continued in Teach an Léinn online and physically in the centre, and learners have continued to be put forward for QQI awards and Leaving Certificate. Learners both past and present are receiving awards in QQI, Leaving Cert Manual Handling and Credit Union Art prizes.

Two programmes run full-time in Teach an Léinn QQI General Learning and Information and Communications Technology Skills.

These programmes provide the learner with opportunity to complete core QQI modules alongside Leaving Certificate subjects. Providing a solid foundation in a range of core subjects that allows the learner to effectively develop their oral and written communication and technology skills as a basis for progression to apprenticeships employment and/or further education.

Ideally, participants would be available to participate full-time. Participants must be at least six months unemployed and in receipt of a relevant Social Protection payment, signing for credits or spouse of an eligible person on the date of commencement of the course.

WHAT IS VTOS?

If you have been away from education for a while or if English is not your first language, this course aims to give you a gentle introduction back to full-time learning. Adults are offered a second chance at education. You will return to education in a supportive environment, working with teachers who are experts in teaching adults. Our class sizes are small, so you will receive individual attention.

The Leaving Certificate and QQI are qualifications recognised by all employers and may also provide an ideal progression route into an Apprenticeship, Further Education or Third Level study.

Workshops will be provided to develop essential skills in the areas of customer service, teamwork, problem solving, and the skills required in an ever changing world.

All students benefit from guidance and mentoring throughout the course. To help with progression choices learners are given the opportunities to visit PLC colleges and Third Level institutes both for open days and shadowing opportunities. Help is provided with the CAO application process, preparation for academic interviews and information sessions on grants/funding also provided.

This course is aimed at anyone who did not get the chance to finish their education journey or who wishes to refresh their knowledge in certain subjects in order to change career path or who wish to re-do their Leaving Cert to improve on the first time around.
