Over 100 new jobs for Nenagh

There is great excitement around the north Tipperary region this week as over 100 additional jobs have been announced by Nenagh's school food provider ‘The Lunch Bag’.

Opening its doors at Lisbunny Industrial Estate in the summer of 2020, the company hoped to create 180 jobs within two years. With 140 staff already on the books, the announcement has surpassed expectations, with the additional roles varying across all departments.

“The recent announcement of an additional 60,000 DEIS school children receiving a hot school meal from September has been a huge boost for us,” Lunch Bag CEO Ray Nangle stated. “The year to date has been incredibly successful, with a growth rate of 350% already, but the opportunity to provide a healthy school meal to these children benefits not only the school community, it is also a massive boost for local employment.”

The recent investment of €32 million by the State into DEIS schools is the largest investment ever made into tackling educational disadvantage. As part of receiving DEIS school status, students also receive a free hot school meal. However, the idea of a hot school meal does not phase the Nenagh-based school lunch company, which already provides lunches to over 500 non-DEIS schools nationwide.

“The transition to hot food is actually really straightforward,” Mr Nangle continued. “We have significant experience in school catering and have developed a method of ensuring children can enjoy a hot school meal every day, without any additional stress on the school. Reports from our current principals and parents is that the children are a lot more focused, calmer and invested in their nutrition since they switched to hot food. We look forward to expanding the service to as many schools as possible in the new term.”

Twenty-four Tipperary schools have been awarded recent DEIS status and can look forward to enjoying a hot school meal daily, in addition to increased funding for additional teaching posts and increased home supports.

The Lunch Bag is now actively hiring for production staff, drivers, brand ambassadors and area managers. An open day will be held on August 5 at their Lisbunny unit for interested parties.
