Christie moves on from Tipp footballers

Tipperary senior football manager David Power is on the lookout for a new coach after Paddy Christie was appointed manager of the Longford senior footballers on Monday.

Christie, a former All-Star footballer with Dublin, was coach to the Tipperary senior team for the past three years. He played a pivotal part as the coaching team guided the premier county to a first Munster Championship success in November 2020.

The team suffered a disappointing relegation to division 4 of the National League but bounced back straight away with promotion this year but endured a poor championship, losing a Munster semi-final to Limerick before exiting in the first round of the Tailteann Cup to Carlow.

Christie was in the running to be involved with the Mayo senior football team in a management ticket with Declan Shaw, but after Kevin McStay was appointed last week, Longford were able to secure the services of the Ballymun Kickhams clubman.

Christie’s decision to move on also means Tipperary are on the lookout for a new under 20 football manager as he had been the manager for the past two years, including reaching a Munster final in 2021.
