Tipperary Under 14 Blue panel, Tony Forrestal Cup winners 2022

Good weekend for Tipperary juvenile hurling squads

Finals weekend in the underage inter-county hurling tournaments took place last weekend with Tipperary teams in all three grades proving to be extremely competitive with a number of teams claiming silverware.

Pride of place goes to the Under 14 ‘A’ squad who retained the Tony Forrestal Cup in Waterford. Winning the competition for a record thirteenth time, Tipperary defeated Wexford 2 2-19 to 0-10 in the quarter finals and Waterford 2 4-11 to 2-10 in semi-final before accounting for Kilkenny 1 3-13 to 0-10 in the final.

In the Sonny Walsh U14 ‘B’ competition, Tipperary easily defeated Laois 1 in the quarter-final and Laois 2 in the semi-final but lost 4-8 to 2-11 to Cork 4 in the final.

In the Under 15 Arrabawn Tournament hosted in North Tipperary this year, Tipperary’s first team didn’t qualify for the Cup section which was won by Limerick who defeated Galway in the final.

Tipperary were in the Shield competition and defeated Cork 2 1-24 to 1-8 in the semi-final and beat Cork’s first team 1-20 to 1-7 in the final in Borrisoleigh.

Tipperary’s second team won the John Doyle Cup, defeating Kildare in the semi-final in Borrisoleigh 4-18 to 1-6 before defeating Kilkenny 2 0-18 to 0-12 in the final in Nenagh.

The Tipperary Under 16 panel took part in the Michael Foley tournament in Wexford where they defeated Dublin 1-19 to 1-10 in round 1 but were defeated 4-9 to 1-11 by Limerick in round 2 which put them into the Shield final against Waterford where they went down narrowly, 1-18 to 2-14.
