Festivities at Sheehane
On August 21 the community in Sheehane celebrated 40 years. Residents past and present joined us on the main green for music song and laughter. It was a great day with the sun shining, kids playing and having their faces painted by Maura Phelan, people chatting and singing to the lovely music by Jason and Simon Simmons and later by Paddy Curran, Seamie Moloughney and Pat Byrne of Na Riadori band. Mary McNamara wrote a piece which perfectly describes Sheehane, while Michael Donavan released two doves as a sign of peace and friendship in our community.
Resting on a hill,
Overlooking the town of Roscrea
Sits a community
Of neighbourly friendship and camaraderie display.
Children played on the grassy middle green, friendships sealed for years and today can still be seen
In the smiles and memories
Of the days long gone but the friendships made will go on and on.
To our neighbours who we've lost over the years
You’re not forgotten through our tears
You're here today with us still and in our reflections you always will.
Today we celebrate 40 years of togetherness
Here's to the next 40 years
Wishing our neighbours many more years of neighbourly friendship bliss.
- Sheehane committee would like to thank everyone for coming and to those who gave their time in making it a great success.
