Nenagh AFC stretch unbeaten run

By Pat Sheehan

Nenagh AFC stretched their unbeaten run to four games following two away draws over the past week.

Last Thursday away to Charleville, a share of the spoils was an acceptable result for both sides, but Nenagh will be livid with the number of chances they created but they were unable to penetrate a solid Charleville back line.

On Sunday, they made the short trip to Ballynanty Rovers where the game ended 1-1. The home side were glad to eke something from the game as they trailed Nenagh thanks to a Matt Spain goal, going into the last minute of play. Substitute Eddie Byrnes’ last gasp equaliser was a heartbreak for a well organised Nenagh XI who looked like they had done enough to hold on for a deserved win.

Fairview Rangers continue to lead the way in the Premier League as goalkeeper Aaron Savage posted another couple of clean sheets this week as the Blues beat Janesboro (5-0) and Charleville (6-0).

Premier ‘A’ League

Newport Town had a good week, posting two victories. In midweek, they pipped Hyde Rangers by the odd goal in five. Goals from Jay Ryan and Brian O'Sullivan (Newport) and Lee Hartigan and Evan Shine (Hyde) had the sides level late in the game when Ryan struck a cracking goal to win the points for the home side.

They followed that up on Saturday with an impressive 7-0 win at Cappamore. Jay Ryan (2), Dan Egan (2), Eoin Looney and two own goals accounted for the scoring.

Division 2A

Nenagh AFC ‘B’ moved into second spot with an impressive 3-0 win at Charleville ‘B’. Cillian Scully scored a brace for the winners with Casey Finn also finding the target.

Youth

Joint Youth Division 2 leaders Newport Town recorded a big win over Aisling Annacotty ‘B’ to keep their title charge intact. Jamie Kavanagh 3, Sean Chitzede 3, Ciaran Carey 2 and Sean Reddington scored.

Under 17

In the Under 17 Division 1, Pike Rovers eased past Nenagh AFC thanks to scores from Josh Mullaney (2), Shane Franklin (2) and Aaron Cusack, Dylan McKenna replied.

Nenagh followed up with a 2-2 draw with Regional United. Dan Zamotsnyy and Joey McLoughlin netted for the Tipperary side.

In Division 2, Newport Town fell 3-1 to Shelbourne who had scorers in Daniel Collins, Adam McGlynn, and Joe Preto. Evan Moran replied for Newport who produced a much better showing on Saturday when they beat Granville 4-2. Sean McHugo, Eoghan Flynn, Ciarán Carey and an own goal accounted for the scores.
