Members of the 1971 Tipperary All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship and Roscrea All-Ireland Senior Club Hurling Championship winning teams were honoured by Tipperary County Board at FBD Semple Stadium on Sunday.
It was an event delayed by a year because due to Covid restrictions in 2021 as both teams’ golden jubilee of their All-Ireland successes were celebrated.
Seventeen of the surviving Tipperary panel were present, including captain Tadhg O’Connor who along with Francis Loughnane were honoured on the double as they were also members of the Roscrea team who were the first winner of the All-Ireland Club title.
Both teams were presented to the crowd prior to the County Senior Hurling Championship preliminary quarter final between JK Brackens and Nenagh Eire Og, following which there was a special function in the Dome, with special guest former RTE GAA commentator Micheal O Muircheartaigh.
