The crew launched from the Pier Head at Killaloe

Another busy week for Killaloe Coast Guard

At 2.30pm on Saturday last, September 24, Killaloe Coast Guard unit was tasked to a vessel drifting on Lough Derg. Within minutes, a crew launched from the Pier Head and on reaching the vessel, which had lost engine power, found it was being towed by a friend of the owner. The skipper was happy to continue with his friend and did not need assistance. The Coast Guard crew held off until the vessel was safely moored in Killaloe at 3.25pm and returned to base.

The local unit was tasked on September 18 to assist in a missing person search operation in the Woodford area of County Galway. Search teams responded with 4x4s, Incident Command Vehicle and the unit’s ATV (All-Terrain Vehicle) and joined with teams from Galway Civil Defence and Tipperary Search and Rescue, as well as a large number of local people who were all out searching during the day. Fortunately, the person was located on Sunday evening and treated by Civil Defence personnel until Fire and Rescue and the National Ambulance Service arrived.

Volunteers from Killaloe Coast Guard manned the Information Stand at the National Ploughing Championships from September 20 to 22.

On Sunday, September 25, the unit attended Nenagh Garda Station where equipment and vehicles were on display for members of the public, which included a rescue boat (Delta 7.5m Rib), Incident Command Vehicle, ATV and response vehicles.
