Popular Christmas Concert returns to Nenagh

Ormond Octaves bounce back on a high note!

After being silenced by the pandemic for over two years, the joys and delights of festive choral singing return to Saint Mary of the Rosary Church in Nenagh when the Ormond Octaves choir stages its annual Christmas Charity Concert on Friday night, December 16.

Mark the date in your diary, because it’s not just a golden opportunity to treat yourself to a top-class performance of carols and songs from all the ages - buying that ticket will also give you the satisfaction of knowing that funds raised from the concert will go to a local charity that has been offering vital care and support to traumatised children here in our own locality over many years.

The Octave members, under their indefatigable founder and Musical Director, Niamh Ryan, are currently mid-way through months of rehearsals to bring you what is expected to be a memorable night of music and singing - and privileged to do so to generate much-needed funds for the Children's Grief Centre.

The Children's Grief Centre provides a professional, safe and compassionate listening space for children here in Nenagh and North Tipperary who are consumed by grief, anger, sadness and fear due to loss caused through death, separation or divorce. The services of the centre are not only provided locally, but indeed throughout the entire Midwest region.

MANY CHARITIES

Since founded by Niamh Ryan 14 years ago, the Ormond Octaves through its concerts has generated tens of thousands of euro for numerous charities and local causes, such as the Friends of Nenagh Hospital, the Alzheimer Society of Ireland, North Tipperary Hospice, the Cancer Unit at the University Hospital Limerick and has raised lots of funds to improve educational facilities in local schools

Not alone all this, but the big sound created by the huge choir of 60 talented singers and accompanying musicians and special guest performers lights up the atmosphere of Christmas in Nenagh and is now well established as one of the highlights of the entire festive season.

FESTIVE ATMOSPHERE

So, come along on Friday night, December 16, and get your Christmas celebrations off to the perfect start with an event that will engender the atmosphere of the season.

Indulge in some superb renditions of your favourite Christmas songs, such as Oh Holy Night, and embark with the choir on a musical journey that will take you from some of the best known songs of Irish tenors through to the top hits of many decades.

Be treated to old songs and new as the four-voices choir of Sopranos, Altos, Basses and Tenors intermingle to create a symphony of sounds that encompass absolutely stunning takes on songs such as U2's With Or Without You and the Billy Joel hit, Piano Man.

In 2008 when founding the Octaves, Niamh Ryan's main aim was to revive the great tradition of choral singing in Nenagh and create a forum for local people to perform in a community choir.

The Octaves charity mission has also resulted in helping to improve the lives of so many people here in our own community and will continue to do so in the years ahead.

Tickets, at €20, for the much-anticipated concert on Friday, December 16, will be available from all choir members over the coming weeks. They can also be purchased at the door on the night of the performance. See you there!
