Nenagh to host Snooker Tour event before Open

Some of the best Irish amateur snooker players will descend on Nenagh over the next two weekends.

Firstly, next Saturday 26th & Sunday 27th November, Nenagh Institute & Snooker club will host the third event on the SBI (Snooker & Billiards Ireland) Amateur Tour.

Generally, these events take place in SBI headquarters in Carlow as well as the Crucible club in Cork, but the growth of the Nenagh club has seen them bestowed the honour of hosting one of these five events, leading up to the Irish Amateur Championships next April.

Ross Bulman will be the No.1 seed after winning the second event in Carlow last month. Rodney Goggins won the first event in September, but they will be strongly challenged by Nenagh’s own Brendan O’Donoghue on home baize. The defending Irish Amateur champion is great form will aim to build on reaching the quarter finals at the World Amateur Championships in Turkey recently.

The action gets underway at Nenagh Institute on Friar Street at 10.00am on both Saturday and Sunday and continues until late on both evenings with up to sixty of the countries best players descending on Nenagh which will be a significant boost to the local economy.

It will be the same the following weekend when many of those same players will return to Nenagh for the annual Nenagh Open.
