Deputy Cahill: Delivery on jobs and investment for Tipperary has always been a priority for me.

€1m secured for Lisheen National BioEconomy Campus

The Cathaoirleach of the Oireachtas Agriculture Committee and Fianna Fáil TD for Tipperary, Jackie Cahill has today announced that he has secured a €1 million investment for the National BioEconomy Campus in Lisheen.

Deputy Cahill announced this positive news for the area today, and for the advancement of technologies and initiatives in the battle against climate change. This positive news follows Deputy Cahill’s confirmation earlier this week that planning permission has been granted for the Naringtech BioProducts Campus, which also located in Lisheen, bringing at least 30 jobs to the area.

The Thurles man said: “The National BioEconomy Campus has a huge role to play in reducing Ireland’s carbon emissions. This week, I secured €1 million from the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine for the campus.

“Professor Kevin O’Connor and his UCD team are constantly coming up with new initiatives and technologies to help the agri-food industry meet its targets. This campus is going to have a key role in Ireland’s future.”

The Fianna Fáil Deputy continued: “This week has been a very positive one for Lisheen, with the campus here receiving considerable state investment through the Department of Agriculture. On top of this, we have secured planning permission for the BioProducts Campus next door here, which will provide at least 30 jobs locally and see industries start moving back into this area.

“Delivery on jobs and investment for Tipperary has always been a priority for me, and as Tipperary’s only Government TD, I am delighted to see delivery in action this week”, Cahill concluded.
