Roscrea man edits TV series for children
A NATIVE of Roscrea is the Editor of a new series for preschool children currently airing on the RTÉ junior channel, RTÉjr.
‘The Wee Littles Preschool’ series premiered on Monday last, November 21 following months of work by the team behind the venture, including the Editor, Nathan Campion from Roscrea.
The programmes, ‘The Wee Littles’, have been produced by Magpie 6 Media and is now airing weekdays at 8.30am, 12.40pm, 4.25pm.
Magpie 6 Media is a small Ennis-based animation studio that took on Nathan (27) to help make the series.
Of his roots, Nathan said: “I grew up and lived in Roscrea pretty much my whole life. I've always been around town either playing music or helping out in any creative way I can.”
Nathan has directed music videos for other local artists such as Jack Keeshan and Stephen Lee (Happyalone).
He graduated from Limerick Institute of Technology in 2019 with an honours degree in Creative Broadcast and Film Production. He is a winner of the LIT Sports Award for Excellence in Creative Broadcast and Film Production.
Nathan says he had had the pleasure of being involved in some incredible projects, such as the IFTA-winning ‘An Cailín Ciúin’, working with great artists like the late Halyna Hutchins, the cinematographer who died last year after a live round in a Colt . 45 revolver actor Alec Baldwin was holding on a film set unexpectedly went off and killed her.
This eventually led to Nathan being offered the position of Editor on exciting new preschool series currently airing on RTÉjr. “We've been working away for the past nine months and finally the show is ready to air," Nathan told this newspaper last week.
Of his native Roscrea, Nathan says: “The town is bursting with creativity and I'm very thankful for many of the opportunities Roscrea gave me to nurture my creativity whether that be gigs on bandstands or acoustic sessions in The Stand.
“Roscrea has always presented a stage for creatives to learn and express themselves and I will always be grateful for that.”
‘The Wee Littles’series was created and produced by a wife and husband team, Christina O’Shea and Clifford Parrott who describe it as “a highly original animation series for preschool children about the world of small creatures of the forest floor, under the ‘regular’ human first sight.”
The world of the story is unique, inspired by County Clare’s flora and fauna, and is inhabited by a friendly family, “which creates a very cute, cozy atmosphere”.
The show follows the adventures of a Wee Little family, living, loving, and sharing in great big forest world. The Wee Littles’ stories are about how they handle being very small in a very big world using their own inventive flair.
The couple behind the series reveal: “Our young audience will relate to the characters because, like them, they too are very small living in a great big adult world. The Wee Littles overcome life’s little obstacles by using their imagination, positive support, and always humour. The characters are non-verbal, communicating through squeaks, whistles, and other animal sounds.”
