Teagasc’s new organic advisor in Tipp
Teagasc has appointed Orla Walsh as an organic advisor in the Tipperary region following the growing interest in Organic Farming.
Orla graduated from University College Dublin (UCD) with a degree in agricultural science, and completed her Masters as a Teagasc Walsh Scholar and worked as a college teacher in Kildalton College. She was currently working as an ACRES advisor in the Clonmel office, where she will also be based for the Organic advisor role.
Following her appointment, Orla is looking forward to working with the team as the organisation develops new support services for organic farmers to promote and develop the sector. She said: “This is an exciting time to be part of a growing sector and I look forward to supporting both new and existing Organic farmers to grow and develop their organic farming enterprises as they bring change and improvement to their farming lives.”
There were 73 new applications to the Organic Farming scheme in Tipperary in 2022, reflecting the growing interest in Organic Farming. Organic farming systems provide opportunities for farmers and growers to implement both traditional and innovative techniques to their farming system to allow them achieve a potential premium for their produce while working closely with nature.
