Suspected cannabis sweets seized in Nenagh following raid
The Garda Divisional Drugs Unit seized a large quantity of suspected cannabis sweets following a raid in the Nenagh area last Friday.
The so-called “cannabis jellies” are suspected to contain synthetic cannabinoids.
A quantity of suspected cocaine was also seized during the operation.
A man was detained at Nenagh Garda station in relation to the discoveries and was subsequently charged with drugs offences.
On the same day, gardaí responded to a call in the early hours of the morning of a suspected break-in at a business premises on Old Birr Road, Nenagh, and an intruder was arrested on suspicion of burglary. The man was detained and questioned at Nenagh Garda station and later charged.
On Saturday, January 14, an Ifor Williams horse box was reported stolen from an area near Knock, Roscrea, The gardaí harvested CCTV footage and identified a suspect. During follow-up searches the horse box was recovered on January 16. One man was arrested and detained at Nenagh Garda station and later charged with theft.
The gardaí are appealing for witnesses to an incident on the M7 near Moneygall in the past week in which a motorist who was on the northbound carriage had his windows smashed by the occupants of another vehicle in an unprovoked attack. The injured party was reported to be very shaken by the incident and local gardaí are now appealing for witnesses to contact Nenagh Garda station, or any Garda station.
The gardaí responded to 13 public order incidents in the District over the past two weeks - eight of these were in Nenagh, three in Roscrea and two in Newport. Arrests were made in the majority of incidents and a number of people have been charged and will appear in court at a later date.
Meanwhile, two thefts from cars were reported on January 6.
The first occurred at Nenagh railway station at approximately 6.10pm when a number of items were stolen. The second happened at Church Road in the town at around 9.05pm when a car window was smashed and the car ransacked.
The gardaí are examining CCTV footage from the town and investigations are ongoing.
Despite the holiday season being over, the gardaí are continuing to mount checkpoints and two persons have been arrested in the past week on suspicion of drug driving. Files for the DPP are being prepared in both cases.
