Post Office to open in Castleconnell
Minister of State at the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage, Kieran O’Donnell and his colleague, Castleconnell-based Fine Gael Councillor Michael Murphy today welcomed the direct confirmation received by them from An Post and new Postmaster and Proprietor of Supervalu Castleconnell, Mr. Peter Cunningham that they are working towards re-opening Castleconnell Post Office in the newly fitted out premises in the SuperValu store on Monday next, February 20.
“I received direct confirmation from Angus Laverty, Public Affairs Manager with An Post and new Postmaster and Proprietor of Supervalu Castleconnell, Peter Cunningham that they are working towards re-opening Castleconnell Post Office in the newly fitted out premises in the Supervalu store on Monday next, February 20.
“This is great news for Castleconnell and the surrounding areas, providing great relief and certainty that the Post office is set to re-open at its new premises in Supervalu and the future of this vital post office service in the village is firmly secured.
“Since the existing Castleconnell Post Office unexpectedly closed on October 21, 2022 last, I and my Fine Gael colleague, Castleconnell based Councillor Michael Murphy had worked extensively with An Post, Peter Cunningham and the local Community to secure the future of Castleconnell Post Office in the village. Its closure caused a great degree of worry for people and businesses in the area around the future of a vital Post Office in the Village.
“Then, on November 21 last, Councillor Michael Murphy and I were delighted to announce the news that following weeks of uncertainty, it was confirmed that Castleconnell Post office would be based in its new location at SuperValu, Castleconnell.
“Particularly, we wish to acknowledge and thank Mr. Peter Cunningham for stepping in and taking on the role of Post Master for Castleconnell and locating it in his existing SuperValu premises which he operates in the heart of the village and we wish him every success as he prepares to open the new post office doors next Monday 20th February. Up to now customers have been accessing services at Newport Post office, Castletroy Post office or in another Post office of their choosing.
“I spoke to Mr Cunningham today and he confirmed he is near completion on the necessary Post Office fit-out in his SuperValu premises and is looking forward to providing a post office service once again to the local community in Castleconnell and surrounding areas.
“You cannot overstate the importance of a post office to the village of Castleconnell and with the confirmation that it will re-open next Monday is most welcome for all."
