Kilruane are Club of the Year at North Tipperary GAA Awards

The Tomas MacDonagh Complex in Cloughjordan will host the North Tipperary GAA Awards next Friday evening which will recognise the leading performers in both hurling and Gaelic football from an exciting 2022.

As is now tradition, the winner of the Club of the Year Award gets to host the presentation ceremony with Kilruane MacDonagh’s bestowed the prestigious accolade for a sixth time, adding to 1975, 1977, 1978, 1985, and 2018, after winning county titles in senior hurling and junior ‘B’ football last year.

The club also has two players receiving individual awards with Niall O’Meara named as Overall Hurler of the Year while Eoin Hogan picks up the junior footballer of the year accolade. Eight other clubs are among the award winners, including Nenagh Eire Og’s Jake Morris who is the Senior Hurler of the Year after helping his club to the North title in exciting fashion in Cloughjordan last year.

The list of the Award winners are as follows:

Kilruane MacDonaghs have been named North Tipperary Club of the Year after a very successful 2022.

MacDonaghs were richly deserving winners of the County Senior Hurling title, ending a 37 year wait for the Dan Breen after a County Final replay win over Kiladangan.

They also won North & County Junior 'B' Football titles in 2022 with final victories over Shannon Rovers & Boherlahan Dualla respectively.

Mr Consistent for his club in 2022, Niall O’Meara led the Kilruane defence in some excellent performances throughout the year, offering an attacking threat from the half back line with many explosive runs up the field. He gave two outstanding performances in the County Finals, especially in the closing stages of the drawn match.

Jake Morris played a key role in Nenagh's second half final come back against Kiladangan, finishing with a tally of 1-3 to help Eire Og win their tenth North title. He also bagged 2-2 in their semi-final win over Templederry.

Ruadhan Mulrooney produced a man of the match performance for Portroe in their extra time North Final victory over Roscrea. He finished with six points from play for the Shannonsiders and was a standout performer for Portroe throughout the year.

Colm was the standout player for Lorrha in the North and County Intermediate title winning campaigns with the stylish corner forward topping the scoring charts for Lorrha throughout. He was also main man for the Lorrha Rovers U21 side that made it to the North 'B' Final.

Toomevara claimed their fifth North Junior 'A' title in six years with Conor O’Farrell putting in a man of the match performance in the North Final - scoring three points from midfield.

William Flood played a key part in Portroe's North Junior 'B' Title winning campaign. The stylish corner back was a consistent performer throughout the year with a great ability to read the game and doing the simple things well.

2022 saw Borris-Ileigh ended a 25 year wait for the North U21 'A' title and no small thanks to John McGrath who was excellent for Borris throughout their campaign where the corner back excelled at his man-marking duties, as well as launching many attacks out of defence.

Eoin Grace led the Burgess forward line in the North U21 'B' winning campaign, showcasing his goal scoring ability throughout. He finished with an impressive 3-7 tally in their North final win over Lorrha Rovers

Roscrea's towering full forward proved to be a handful for opposition defences throughout the U19 campaign with Conor Dooley scoring 1-4 in Roscrea's North Final victory over Ballina. He also played a key role for Roscrea in their Premier Intermediate campaign in 2022.

Eddie Ryan captained Borris-Ileigh to North and County U19 'B' Hurling titles - having top scored for his side throughout the championship, scoring 0-10 and 0-12 in each final. He was also very prominent in their North U21 'A' title win.

Paddy O’Donovan was an ever-present figure in the Ballina defence in their county final winning campaign and kept many a forward scoreless. A tenacious tackler, good reader of the game and a skilful footballer.

Eoin Hogan was a rock at full back in Kilruane's Junior 'B' county title winning campaign. He was man of the match in the County Final, making some crucial interceptions when the game was in the balance as well as launching several counterattacks.

The stylish wing forward was the main man up front for Ballina in their U19 football campaign, scoring six points in their North Final win over Kiladangan and scored another six in their County semi-final defeat to Clonmel Commercials. Cathal O’Donnell also played a role in Ballina's Intermediate winning campaign, scoring a goal in their final win over Mullinahone.

Cian Carmody was scorer in chief for Nenagh Eire Og's North U19 'B' winning campaign with the stylish corner forward being a consistent goal threat for Eire Og. He gave a masterclass in the North Final, finishing with a tally of 2-4.
