Nenagh CBS TY student Ben Kirwan with Toastmasters Donnacha Shanahan and John Leinster.

Three speakers for Nenagh Toastmasters

Nenagh Toastmasters were fortunate to have another Transition Year student from Nenagh CBS give a short speech recently.

Ben Kirwan spoke very confidently and clearly about playing the fiddle. He learned to play using the Suzuki Method and as his interest in trad music grew, he switched to trad completely.

We learned many things from him including the fact that the fiddle and the violin are the same instrument; the name relates to the type of music being played. At the end of the speech, he even played a few tunes for us. Well done, Ben Kirwan.

We also had a speech from Stephen Cullinane. He spoke very well about the beautiful Lough Derg. Stephen always gives us very informative speeches and this one was not an exception.

Our third speaker was Natasha Gavilovsk. She spoke about the huge influence a primary school teacher had on her and many of her classmates.

In her gentle way, the teacher helped shape their minds and moral compass. In a very well-developed speech she explained how, when recollecting those times, many wonderful memories surfaced about this amazing teacher. Natasha only now really appreciates the work done by this teacher.

Donnacha Shanahan very expertly chaired the meeting. The second half of the meeting dealt with topics.

Our Topicsmaster was one of our newest members, Rowena Bisschoff, who has moved from South Africa into the area with her husband David.

Rowena's job was to introduce a topic and pick a speaker, who then tries to talk on the subject for two minutes. She had a wonderful selection of topics, which kept us all busy and entertained for the rest of the meeting.

Our next meeting is on Tuesday, March 14, at 8.15pm in the Abbey Court Hotel. Please call in. You won't be put on the spot to speak.
