Tipp players for Ireland squads
Four Tipperary soccer players have been selected on Republic of Ireland underage squads for upcoming games.
Roscrea’s Brody Lee has once again been selected on the Republic of Ireland U15 squad for two friendlies against Latvia this week. The former Killavilla United youngster and current Shamrock Rovers player impressed at a tournament in Croatia last October where he was man of the match in the win over Cyprus and also featured in the games against Spain and Croatia.
They played Latvia in the first friendly at Home Farm FC in Whitehall, Dublin on Tuesday with Lee starting in a 5-0 win. The second game will also be in Home Farm on Thursday, 23rd March at 1.00pm.
Holycross’ Grace Fitzpatrick Ryan has been selected on the Under 17 squad, managed by former FAI North Tipperary Development Officer James Scott, for the upcoming European Championship qualifiers.
The defender, who plays her club soccer with Wexford Youths, will aim to line out in the games against Kosovo (March 23), Italy (March 26) and France (March 29).
In order to secure passage through to this summer’s finals tournament in Estonia, Ireland must top their group. The Girls in Green are ranked sixth in the seedings for this stage of qualification having finished in first place in round 1 last October.
At under 15 girls level, Borrisokane Community College’s Grace Ehinger, Lily-Anne O'Meara of Colaiste Phobal Riscrea and Leah McGrath of St Anne’s Secondary School Tipperary Town have been selected on the Ireland squad who aim to defend the Bob Docherty Cup next month.
The Tipperary trio are among an eighteen strong panel selected by manager Richard Berkeley for the Four Nations tournament along with Northern Ireland, England and hosts Scotland which takes place in Glasgow.
The Republic of Ireland will open their campaign against the hosts on Sunday, April 2nd in Parklea Playing Fields at 4.00pm while they enjoy a rest day on Monday. The penultimate test will see them pipped against England in Renfrew Juniors FC on Tuesday, April 4th at 4.00pm. Another rest day in scheduled for Wednesday. The Republic of Ireland will then wrap up proceedings against Northern Ireland on Thursday, April 6th at 1.00pm.
