DIVISION 1

Kiladangan 1-26 Mullinahone 1-20

A good start and a strong finish saw Kiladangan finish deserving winners over Mullinahone in their second-round game in Puckane on Saturday.

The good start saw them take a 1-2 to nil lead inside the opening two minutes with Bryan McLoughney scoring the goal. McLoughney scored 1-5 from play overall and his point in the 19th minute had the home-side 1-9 to 0-4 in front, their biggest lead so far.

However, Mullinahone fought back with four unanswered points through Conor Whelan, Michael Dunne (2) and Sean Curran. Both sides then added three points each as Kiladangan led 1-12 to 0-11 at half time.

After Billy Seymour increased Kiladangan’s lead to five, Mullinahone fought back with Jack Shelly scoring 1-1 before points from Conor Whelan and Shelly again had Mullinahone in front for the first time on forty minutes.

But Kiladangan hit back in the shape of a Shane Gleeson score from play before Billy Seymour edged Kiladangan in front with a free with Sean Hayes on target also.

Eanna Ryan left the minimum between the teams, but Kiladangan had greater ammunition and points by Paul Flynn (2), Billy Seymour and Shane Gleeson gave the home-side a six point win.

Borris-Ileigh 1-17 Clonoulty/Rossmore 2-10

Borris-Ileigh held out for a four-point win over Clonoulty/Rossmore in their delayed opening round game in Borrisoleigh on Sunday.

The visitors dominated the opening twenty minutes, helped by a Nathan Slattery goal. However, Borris-Ileigh recovered to take a 0-10 to 1-6 half time lead.

In the second half Borris-Ileigh’s hand was strengthened by a James Devaney goal. Clonoulty responded with a Nicky Kearns goal ten minutes from time, but it was not enough.

The game between Toomevara and Drom & Inch was postponed as a mark of respect to the late Johnny Harkin of Borrisoleigh and former Drom Inch hurler.

Division 3

Moneygall 1-12 Silvermines 2-14

Silvermines came from behind to overcome hosts Moneygall last Sunday.

The winners trailed 1-5 to 0-5 at half time but goals in the 35th minute by Danny Quinn and Sean Spillane in the 55th put them on the road to victory.

Division 6

Knockshegowna 2-10 Killea 0-13

Goals in either half by Graham Gohery and Michael Egan helped Knockshegowna over the line against Killea at Ballingarry last Saturday.

Round 2 of the County Hurling League starts this evening (Wednesday) when Borris-Ileigh travel to Moycarkey/Borris and continues right through to Sunday evening.
