The Holy Wells of Duharra

Arra Historical & Archaeological Society Field Trip - The Holy Wells of Duharra on Sunday, May 7, at 3pm, meeting point Newtown RC Church car-park.

We plan to visit St Conlan's Well, St Brigid's Well and St Patrick's Well and talk about folklore, religious beliefs/pilgrimage beliefs and archaeology/history associated with them and that of the surrounding areas.

We ask to car-pool if possible, the plan is to visit St Conlan's Well firstly and then to proceed to St Bridget's Well and to finish up at St Patrick's Well (Carrigatoher).

Dr Siobhan Geraghty will lead the tour and talk on the subject and will be assisted by Derek Ryan who recently completed a Survey of the Holy Wells in Tipperary on behalf of Tipperary County Council.

We also really want to hear from everyone about their knowledge of folklore and religious beliefs of the Holy Wells in the locality which is so important and not always recorded.

The tour is free to anyone with an interest in the history of their locality.
