Munster Senior Football Championship

Our senior footballers travelled to Fitzgerald Stadium Killarney last Saturday for their Munster Championship semi-final clash with All Ireland champions Kerry.

In what was a game that was always going to be a very tough assignment for the side, Kerry proved to be much too strong for David Power’s charges and they ran out 0-25 to 0-5 winners. Tipperary must now regroup and prepare for the Tailteann Cup.

Munster Senior Hurling Championship

Cusack Park in Ennis was the destination for our senior hurlers last Sunday where they took on Clare in round 1 of the Munster Championship.

Playing in front of a crowd of almost 18,000 spectators, the players went about their business in very determined fashion as they overcame the Clare challenge on a final score of 5-22 to 3-23 and secured two very important away points.

Next up is another away tie against Cork in Pairc Uí Chaoimh on Saturday, May 6th at 7.00pm. The Tipperary senior camogie team will be played in the curtain-raiser in a Munster semi-final at 4.30pm.

Munster Under 20 Hurling Championship

Our under 20 hurlers played Limerick last Friday in FBD Semple Stadium, in what was a must-win game. This was a really good performance from all involved as they secured a vital win which keeps Tipperary’s hopes of reaching the knockout stages very much alive.

Tipperary take on Waterford this Friday in FBD Semple Stadium at 7.30pm in the knowledge that a win will see them through to the semi-final.

Munster Minor Hurling Championship

Our minor hurlers hope of reaching this year’s knockout stages of the Munster Championship came to an end last Tuesday evening as they went down to Limerick by the narrowest of margins in FBD Semple Stadium. Their final game was played on Tuesday evening when they took on Waterford in Thurles. See www.nenaghguardian.ie for match report.

Munster Minor Football Championship

Our minor footballers continued on their winning ways last Thursday in FBD Semple Stadium as they easily overcame Waterford. They now face Clare this Thursday in FBD Semple Stadium in the knowledge that a win will secure them top spot in the group. Michael Hogan Festival of Football

The launch of the 2023 Michael Hogan Festival of Football took place in Semple Stadium last Thursday evening at the Munster Minor Football Championship game between Tipperary and Waterford.

This festival will offer an opportunity to play the game in a fun environment for young people in Tipperary. It involves U11 and U13 tournaments for clubs across Tipperary, with the Under 11 taking place on Saturday, June 3rd June while the Under 13 competition will be held in October.

This football festival is in its third year and has proved hugely popular amongst players and clubs in the county. Originally started to commemorate the centenary of Bloody Sunday, it gives young players the chance to showcase their skills and play a part in a growing competition. Almost 1,000 children will take part in each tournament which is played in up to ten venues across Tipperary.

GAA Generations Oral History Project

GAA GENERATIONS IS A MAJOR NEW ORAL HISTORY PROJECT BUILT ON CONVERSATIONS BETWEEN YOUNG AND OLD SECTIONS OF OUR MEMBERSHIP.

It offers the chance for people to be a part of the largest inter-generational study in the GAA in its near 140-year history. Ireland boasts a rich tradition of passing our stories from one generation to the next. To honour that, and to capture a better understanding of what the GAA means to its members, the Association has launched a ‘GAA Generations’ oral research project. The idea is simple: we are inviting young GAA, LGFA and Camogie Association members aged 12-21 to record on their mobile phone a conversation with someone who they look up to and admire in the 55+ age bracket. It could be, for example, a parent/grandparent, a coach, or a teacher, past or present, that saw and nurtured your potential. Older participants will also be given the opportunity to quiz their young interviewees on their GAA experiences and how it may have impacted their understanding of who they are. Young people who sign up will receive online training in conducting an interview (based on the ‘Youth as Researcher’ training developed by the UNESCO Centre in the University of Galway). The recorded conversations, along with a photo of the participants, will be stored on the GAA’s eLearning platform and published as part of a GAA archive. Participants will also receive a UNESCO Chairs/GAA Youth Researcher Certificate of Participation. GAA members aged 12-21 years (inclusive) who would like to participate in this research project should complete the expression of interest form found at: www. gaa.ie/generations. This project is kindly supported by the National Office for Suicide Prevention. Under 18s are required to have parental/guardian consent to participate. All those who participate will be given a free interviewer pack while those who submit recordings will be entered into a draw for GAA leisure wear and attendance at an event in Croke Park later this year with special guests that will discuss the findings of this unique inter-generational conversation on the GAA. A video voiced by Irish actor Cillian Murphy will accompany the final research. Clubs and schools are encouraged to get involved in this major research. Substance Use in The GAA

The Community and Health Department have worked with the appropriate statutory bodies such as the Health Service Executive (HSE), Drugs and Alcohol Taskforces (DATFs), Alcohol Forum and the Drug and Alcohol Co-ordination Teams (DACTs) to update the GAAs Substance Use Policy and ensure Clubs and Counties are kept abreast of best practice in this area.

All clubs are strongly advised to adopt a Substance Use Policy. The Policy aims to discourage the use of drugs and tobacco and the misuse of alcohol through three key approaches:

· Prevent alcohol and other drug related problems from happening

· Educate members about relevant issues

· Respond appropriately should a problem arise

The Healthy Club Officer is responsible for overseeing the development, implementation and evaluation of this policy in conjunction with the Club Executive.

It is worthwhile launching your clubs Substance Use policy in collaboration with representatives from your regional DATFs & DACTs or An Gardaí Síochána.
