Luke selected for Team Ireland in badminton
Best of luck to Luke Marks from Roscrea Juvenile Badminton Club, who has been selected for the U15 Irish badminton team that travel to Wales next week to represent Ireland at the quadrangular against England, Scotland and Wales.
Luke has been playing badminton since he was 7, but the last nine months have seen the 12-year-old really flourish. At Munster level Luke won the singles, doubles and mixed U13, won the U15 singles and was runner-up in the U17 singles. On a national level he won the Irish U13 mixed in Lisburn and was a runner-up in the doubles. In November 2022 he was selected to play for the Irish U13 team who travelled to Malmo, to compete in the Swedish Youth Games. The team brought home silver beating France, Sweden and Finland along the way, which was a huge achievement.
Luke is continuing a rich family tradition in badminton; both his grandparents Paddy and Kathleen Marks (RIP) were past Presidents of Badminton Ireland and his own father Patrick played for Ireland as a juvenile.
We wish Luke and his team-mates all the best at the tournament in Wales and every success in the future. His dedication to his weekly coaching sessions in Dublin and matches with Tipperary’s own Robbie Ingram from Templemore Badminton Club are clearly paying off for this young man.
