Packed programme of events for this year’s festival

Nenagh Library has a packed programme of events for this year’s Bealtaine Festival, which celebrates the arts and creativity as we age.

A wide and varied programme, with something to interest everyone, we hope to see as many people as possible participating throughout the month of May.

While there are a few events that require booking ahead as spaces are limited, most are open to everyone and all are free.

The Bealtaine Festival runs nationwide throughout the month of May and in Tipperary is supported by a number of organisations, including Tipperary County Council, Bealtaine Age & Opportunity, the Arts Council, Age Friendly Tipperary, Tipperary ETB, and Creative Ireland.

Tuesday, May 2, at 6.30pm – ‘Family Stories’: Talk by Valerie Cox - journalist, broadcaster and author on a range of topics including her life, her writing, the importance of recording memories.

Thursday, May 4, at 12.30pm - 1.30pm - ‘Introduction To Breathwork & Mindfulness Meditation’ with Mia Magan from Tipperary ETB. Please note: Places limited and booking essential.

Monday, May 15, at 10.30am - The Revamp Tramp Demo: Join Marianne from the Revamp Tramp for this one and a half our furniture upcycling demo.

Follow along as she works on a small locker, showing how to prep, prime, paint and decoupage while also including stencilling, use of frog tape, glazing distressing, and more. A must for anyone interested in home furnishings, upcycling and sustainability.

Thursday, May 18, at 1pm – 2pm - Cookery Demo with Colleen O’Hara from Tipperary ETB: Showcasing the best seasonal produce, Colleen will show how to make two different dishes, including a scrumptious dessert. Please note: Places limited -and booking essential.

Tuesday, May 23, at 6.30pm - ‘Memoirs and Melodies’ with Jean Farrell: Jean writes a weekly column in The Westmeath Independent. Hugely popular with readers, who can identify with her humorous and interesting view of life, in ‘Memories and Melodies’ she looks back over the many changes that have taken place in Ireland since she was a young child in the 1950s. Join Jean in this trip down memory lane, prompted by some of her most popular articles and accompanied by her sister in song.

Friday, May 26, at 2pm - ‘Get Connected with your Smartphone’: Join Rita Reid from Tipperary ETB in this taster workshop to discover what you can do with your smartphone.

Topics covered in this workshop include: Difference between iPhone and Android, between data and Wi-Fi; How to connect to Wi-Fi (at home/in class/out and about); What’s an App? / How to download an App / Common apps and what icons look like; What is a QR code; what does it do? Monday, May 29, at 12.30pm - Beginners Acrylics Class with Melissa Ryan. This two-hour Beginners Acrylic Still Life Workshop will help build your knowledge and confidence to start acrylic painting.
