Celebrate Biodiversity Week in Tipp

Events are taking place locally

There are a number of events taking place in Nenagh and Cloughjordan for Biodiversity Week.

The importance of community seed banks to biodiversity with Kevin Dudley: This will take place at Nenagh Library on Friday, May 19, at 2pm.

The loss of genetic diversity in our food crops is a call to all of humanity to become as engaged as our ancestors. Learn how developing a community seed banks can help:

● Increase biodiversity

● Provide local access to food

● Save us money

● Preserve our growing knowledge and food heritage for future generations

Family event exploring biodiversity – using forest school techniques will take place at Cuan Beo, Cloughjordan Ecovillage from 2 to 4pm on Saturday, May 20.

Children with adults will explore forest school techniques, using creative ways to build relationships with the natural world through nature crafting. Facilitated by Aisling Finucane and Vasudha Krishnamurthy.

Cuan Beo is at the back entrance of the Ecovillage on the Step Road, walk straight ahead through the gate, Cuan Beo is on your right.

Getting to know your local birds with Jamie Durrant will take place at Cuan Beo, Cloughjordan Ecovillage at 10.30am on Sunday, May 21. Beginners identification of local birds by sight and sound. Talk followed by outdoor walk throughout the ecovillage.

Wonderful Weeds with Rachel Hussey, which begins at Coach House in Cloughjordan Ecovillage at 11am on Wednesday, May 24.

Join Rachel Hussey, ecovillage resident and herbalist, on an exploration of some of our most common weeds and discover how they support both biodiversity and our health. Walk limited to 15 participants. Please dress for the weather. Bookings at: education@thevillage.ie.

Wonders of the night sky with John Flannery will be held at the Thomas MacDonagh Museum, Cloughjordan at 7.30pm on Thursday, May 25.

John Flannery will talk on the magic of our dark skies and why they are vital for biodiversity. There will also be a video on the Orion constellation and tea and an informal chat afterwards.
