Students visit Nenagh Cancer Support Centre
Some first year Complementary Therapy students from Templemore College of Further Education recently visited the Cancer Support Centre in Nenagh.
They gave aromatherapy treatments to some of the people who volunteer in the centre. These volunteers generously give of their time, meeting and greeting cancer patients and family members. The students with their aromatherapy tutor spoke to the group about the properties and uses of essential oils and conditions that can benefit from the professional use of plant materials.
The first year students study CIBTAC anatomy and physiology, body massage and aromatherapy. During theory classes, they study 40 oils, learning some phytology, and therapeutic constituents of natural plants.
A large section of the course is hands-on; oils are blended and then applied typically in a full body massage treatment for the wellness of the client and their particular lifestyle needs.
Complementary Therapies have a profound positive influence on the health and wellbeing of us as human beings. Within the last ten years, there has been a definite implementation of preventative illness health care; we drink more fluids, we are taking a good look at our diet and lifestyles, and we are more body-aware in general.
As we gain more knowledge within the health and wellness sphere, we know that it is imperative to try to incorporate therapies on the road to leading a full and enriching, less stress-engulfing life, aiding recovery and building buffers to what life may throw at us.
