Nenagh Ormond Rugby Club has been granted planning permission for the development of two synthetic pitches at its grounds at Lisatunny. The sale of its former grounds at Tyone for the planned development of a multi-million euro Primary Health Care Centre (sketch, above) has left the club cash rich and in a position to expand its current facilities.

New era for Nenagh Ormond

A NEW and exciting chapter is about to dawn in the illustrious history of Nenagh Ormond Rugby club following a decision by Tipperary County Council to  grant planning permission for the construction of two all-weather playing pitches at its grounds at Lisatunny.

The successful application had been submitted in the name of the club's Development Chairman, Sean McCullough.

A large all-weather pitch, measuring 120 metres x 75 metres, is to replace the existing grass training area at the grounds on the Thurles Road.

The club has also been given the green light to develop a smaller all-weather surface of 50 metres x 40 metres to replace the existing grass junior members training area.

Other works planned include construction of footpaths and fencing around the new all-weather pitches.

The ambitious projects have become possible following a substantial boost to the club's coffers following the sale of the club's other pitch at Tyone to Bluemont Development Ltd, which plans to develop a €20 million Primary Health Care Centre on that site.
