70 electric vehicle charging points in Tipp

Installation was to commence this month of 13 new fast-charging stations (providing 18 charging points) for electric vehicles across Tipperary.

The EV chargers are to be found in: Ballina, Borrisokane, Cahir, Carrick-on-

Suir, Cashel, Clonmel, Fethard, Nenagh, Newport, Roscrea, Templemore, Thurles and Tipperary Town.

Responding to calls for a greater service of fast-charging points for EVs, Director of Services Marcus O'Connor told last week's meeting of Tipperary Co Council that there are presently 70 charging points in the county. This is more than any comparative local authority area in the country. The new chargers, which represent a €600,000 investment in Tipperary, would provide the county with nearly 90 charging points and their higher voltage would mean much fast charge times.

"Our coverage is good and it will be improving," Mr O'Connor said of EV charging points.

The council is working with EasyGo in partnership with Eir on progressing the new EV infrastructure.

Meanwhile, Tipperary councillor John Carroll has warmly welcomed progress on electric car charging points within the Nenagh Municipal District.

New chargers are to be provided at the following locations: Ballina, Newport, Nenagh and Borrisokane.

Cllr Carroll said these will be provided very shortly and will improve the number of car charging points at many of our urban and rural centres across the county of Tipperary.

In Ballina, the charger is to be located at the car park near the pool. A 50kW charger is proposed at the location.

The Newport charger is to be located in the car park near the garda station. This will also be a 50kW charger.

In Nenagh, it is proposed to install a 75kW charger in Kenyon Street Car Park

In Borrisokane, the proposal is for a 50kW charger located on the main street.

These will be installed by EasyGo in July and August and will be commissioned after ESB connects the power.
