Kennedy Clan Gathering this weekend
The 2023 Irish Kennedy Clan Gathering takes place in North Tipperary this weekend, July 8 and 9.
The proposed itinerary runs as follows:
Saturday, July 8: 10.30am - Meet-up at Abbey Court Hotel, Nenagh, E45 KA99; 10.45am - Drive to village of Lorrha, E45 A213; 11.30am - Guided walking tour of monastic sites and Kennedy graves in Lorrha village; 12.15pm - tea / coffee break in Scéal Community shop, Lorrha, followed by short drive to Lackeen Castle, E45 TD78; 12.45pm - Guided tour and history of Lackeen Castle, a 15th century Kennedy Tower House.
1.45pm - Drive to Coorevin Farm, near Borrisokane; 2pm - Owner of Coorevin Farm, Padraig will recount the history of Coorevin House from the 1840s when his family first came there up to the present day, with the development of farming practices over the last 180 years there; 3.15pm - End of Saturday Tour. Leave Coorevin Farm with option of going for lunch in Borrisokane, for those who wish to do so.
Sunday, July 10: 6.30pm ‘til late - Meet-up in Kennedy’s Shop and Bar, Rearcross, V94 N7PH. Activities to include (but not confined to) welcoming address by IKHG Chairperson Richard Kennedy; ‘My Irish Kennedy DNA Project’ – Professor Mark Kennedy will give an overview of his comprehensive project and his use of DNA research to connect many different Irish Kennedy branches throughout the world.
‘Returning to settle in the Land of our Ancestors’ – an account of their journey back to Ireland by Kennedys who have now settled in Ireland having first come on a trip to our Clan Gathering; launch of book ‘Our Irish Kennedy DNA Roots’ by Brian Patrick and Terence Kennedy; Irish song and music provided by local artists.
