New entrance for Nenagh Castle

A plan to provide new access to Nenagh Castle from the O'Rahilly St side is being progressed as part of town's historical and cultural quarter project.

District Administrator Rosemary Joyce told the June meeting of Nenagh Municipal District that the project envisages two "plaza areas". One will be developed at Banba Square while the other will be at O'Rahilly St, which was the original main entranceway to the castle.

Ms Joyce said the local authority also recently held a positive meeting with the Courts Service in relation to enhancing the area around the courthouse. There would be another call for Government funding in November and the project would go through the planning process.

Having recently visited the new plaza in Clonmel, Cllr Hughie McGrath said it would be great to do something similar in Nenagh.
