Cloughjordan’s Persse is an Irish Hockey international
A Cloughjordan youngster has become the latest sporting talent to don the green of Ireland after lining out in the European Hockey Games
David Persse has just returned having represented the Ireland Under 18 team in Krefeld, Germany. Ireland played six matches against Austria, Belgium, Germany, Scotland, and Poland winning three and losing three, with the games played in excess of thirty degree heat.
David has always been very interested in sport, playing soccer with Ardcroney FC, hurling and Gaelic football with Kilruane MacDonaghs and table-tennis with Cloughjordan Table Tennis Club.
He went to Villiers School, Limerick in 2018 and was introduced to field hockey. He became goalkeeper and in 2020 he was selected for Munster under 16s but was prevented from playing due to the Covid pandemic.
In 2022, he was selected for Munster under 18s and played in the inter-provincial championships. In January, he was selected for Ireland under 18 for a three-game tournament in England against the home side which secured his spot on the team for the European Games.
David is greatly enjoying all the new experiences coming his way and is very grateful to all who supported him on the way. His school, Villiers, his former clubs and coaches, Munster hockey and the great group involved in Ireland under 18’s, coaches Simon and Adam, manager Ruth and the full team, teammates, parents, sponsors and friends.
