Banjos & Burgers fundraiser

Hospice and playground campaign benefit

On Saturday, July 22, in the beautiful surrounds of Ballygowan at the foot of the Silvermines mountains, Maurice Leamy and the Banjos & Burgers Committee presented cheques totalling over €10,000 to two fantastic causes, North Tipperary Hospice and the Silvermines Playground Committee. These funds were raised on the Leamy Farm on the first Sunday in July when visitors turned out in their hundreds for their open-air BBQ and music festival.

Present to receive the cheques were Kay O’Donoghue from North Tipperary Hospice and members of the hospice committee, including Fionnuala Gill and also Lisa O’Donoghue, chairperson, and committee members of the Silvermines Playground Committee including Mairead Quinn, Áine Sheehan and Aoife Ryan.

Maurice would like to thank all those who supported and contributed to the festival. Thank you to ABP, who donated the burgers for the event on the day. Thank you to Pat O’Donovan of O’Donovan Marquees in Birdhill, who provided the fabulous sound stage and marquees for the day. A special thank you to John Sherlock and the Order Of Malta, who were on hand all day to offer support.

This fundraiser could not have happened without the local community. Thank you to the numerous chefs on the day, both in the burgers stand and the hot dog stand; the Capparoe Women’s Shed and the ladies from the playground committee, who provided sustenance for all.

Maurice would also like to thank all his neighbours and friends who volunteered on the day to help with parking, marshalling, food stalls, play area supervision, etc, and the team of friends who did all the preparation work for the event. A great day was had by all and a great amount of money raised for two great causes.

Major thanks to Liam Gleeson for all the work he did.
