Cllr Kennedy and Deputy Cahill’s previous meeting with Minister Mary Butler on the issue of Cashel CNU

Update on Community Nursing Unit

The Fianna Fáil TD for Tipperary, Jackie Cahill and local Fianna Fáil Cllr, Roger Kennedy met with HSE officials on Monday in relation to the future development of the new Community Nursing Unit (CNU) for Cashel.

Both Deputy Cahill and Cllr Kennedy were pleased with the updates and commitments received at this meeting and secured a commitment from the HSE for a further briefing on this issue later in the year, as the new CNU progresses towards the next stage.

Deputy Cahill said: “Both Cllr Roger Kennedy and myself had a positive and productive engagement with the HSE today in relation to the future of the new 60-bed Community Nursing Unit for the town of Cashel and surrounding areas.

“The HSE explained why the existing St Patrick’s unit and site had to be ruled out for the new CNU. The site is not conducive to a brand new CNU nor would it allow for future expansion of the unit due to the size constraints of the site.

“I am pleased that the HSE has committed to another briefing in the last quarter of this year, where they will again update us on the progress of site selection. We will continue to work constructively with HSE officials and Minister Butler in the meantime.”

Cllr Roger Kennedy added: “I am pleased to be working closely with Minister Mary Butler and Deputy Cahill on the new CNU for Cashel. Following our last meeting with Minister Butler, we secured confirmation that the 60-bed CNU is a priority for Cashel and surrounding areas.

“I welcome further commitments by the HSE at today’s briefing that they will report back to us in Quarter 4 this year after investigating the various potential sites locally for this new, major investment in healthcare and care for the elderly in the area.”
