Successful Dunkerrin Dog Show

The Dunkerrin Dog Show and Fete took place on Sunday, July 16, and it has once again proven to be the highlight event of the year with huge crowds flocking to the picturesque village in spite of some very heavy downpours.

The opening and blessing of the show was performed by Rev Jim Wallace, Fr Joe Kennedy, Rev Janet White-Spunner and Rev Arthur Minnion. The Community Centre was adorned with a huge array of cakes, flowers, plants, shrubs, bric-a-brac, which were all sold and seating area for teas and refreshments served by the hard working committee.

Dogs and owners, both young and old, came from far and wide for the dog show, which had 12 classes and prizes for first, second, third and highly commended places in each class. The judge for the day was Lorraine Malone, aided by Priya Williamson-Donnelly. The Champion Dog of the Show was exhibited by Joe Maher, Dunkerrin Village, and was presented with the John Browne Perpetual Shield. The Reserve Champion was exhibited by Mona Goode, Ballinasloe, Co Galway, and was presented with the Ernie and Joyce Reid Perpetual Shield.

The committee would like to thank everyone who came for their support, to Dunkerrin Hall Committee for the use of the hall, to Jim Dockery for providing marquee and tents for both dogs and owners, to everyone who gave sponsorship, raffle prizes, donations and help in any way to make the day such a success.
