Traditional crafts and patchwork quilting on display in August

Jane McLoughlin is exhibiting her traditional craftwork at Nenagh Library for the month of August.

Born in Wolverhampton but with local roots, Jane McLoughlin, is an artist and crafts woman with a keen interest in a variety of traditional crafts. Over the years, she has mastered the decorative arts of sewing, rug making, upholstery and curtain making, and we are delighted to showcase her most recent interest – needle felting, made with 100% Marino wool, which she bonds by stabbing it with a barbed needle.

Describing her crafting as a wonderful pastime, she is always looking for new craft ideas. A skilled artist, she has a special fondness for pebble art.

Why not drop in to Nenagh Library this month and check out this wonderful exhibition.

Also on display in Nenagh Library this month is an exhibition by Eileen Dight called ‘Sew Much Fun’.

Eileen has lived a full and varied life, living at different times in the UK, Spain, France and the USA before finally settling in Ireland. A lifelong student, she graduated from the University of Wales with a BSc (Econ) in International Politics and History in 1983 and has previously worked as a consultant, founding ‘Export Connect’ to assist British companies in finding sales and trading partners in Spain, before retiring to France, finding a new passion in renovating cottages.

In 1997 she took classes in patchwork and began to sew decoratively. Concentrating just on creating for her family, she completed over 50 projects, including bed covers, cushions, wall hangings while in France, and when it became time for her to relocate once again, this time to the States, she settled in Virginia and immediately turned her hand to learning the craft of patchwork quilting. Sewing, mainly for family and friends, has been her craft of choice now for over 25 years.

In 2005 she published her memoirs, rationalising that it would be the best way to introduce her young grandchildren to the wider family and tell them a little about their antecedents and what shaped them. She moved from Virginia to Nenagh seven years ago and while she refuses to sell these wonderful quilts and wall hangings currently on display, she is happy to email patchwork patterns to anyone who requests them. She can be contacted at emdight@gmail.com.
