Killaloe Coast Guard unit on its way to a recent callout in Killaloe.

Callouts for Killaloe Coast Guard

At 3.30pm on Wednesday, August 9, Killaloe Coast Guard unit was tasked to assist a vessel with engine problems south of Killaloe Bridge. The vessel with two persons on board had lost engine power and drifted aground on the Tipperary shore. A boat crew launched from Pier Head, Killaloe, and when it arrived on scene a crew member was transferred to the vessel and found both persons safe and well and wearing life jackets. Following an inspection of the vessel, it was confirmed that no damage had been caused; a tow line was attached and the boat was towed to Killaloe where a shore team assisted in its safe mooring. At 4.40pm, the crew returned to its base at the Pier Head.

At 9.40am on Saturday, August 12, the Killaloe unit was requested to assist two people on board a jet ski that was drifting north of the bridge. A boat crew launched from the Pier Head and located the jet ski a short distance away. A shore team was on hand to ensure the safe mooring of the jet ski in Harbour Village. The unit was stood down at 10.30am and returned to base.

Last week, Damian Quigley (Officer in Charge of Killaloe Coast Guard unit), presented volunteers Tadhg Cronan and Ross McGrath with the 200-year anniversary Wreck Token, in appreciation of their time and commitment to the Coast Guard and the local community. Well done, Tadhg and Ross.
